This site contains some of the last remaining salt marsh in the San Francisco Bay and serves as critical habitat for hundreds of species of shore birds, fish, and mammals, including the endangered salt marsh harvest mouse and Ridgway’s rail. Restoration efforts focus on restoring key areas along the trail and at Cooley Landing, a former County dump that has been transformed into a nature preserve and education center.
