Come enjoy the outdoors and work to restore a neighborhood park! Volunteers should expect to support the restoration of this California ecosystem by sawing and clipping cotoneaster, a woody invasive plant species. We will also pull and clip a viney invasive species, ivy. We will end our time together with a walk that showcases plants growing in Stulsaft Park!
This project will be co-led by San Mateo County’s Youth Climate Ambassadors (YCA). Four local high school students will help lead the event and teach about biodiversity in Stulstaft Park. Youth Climate Ambassadors (YCA) is a program of the San Mateo Country Sustainability Department.
Accessibility considerations include hiking on uneven and steep terrain, being outside for the entire length of the event, and kneeling, squatting, and standing to pull invasive plants. Volunteers will be supplied with gloves, kneelers, and all tools, including clippers, and small saws.

Waivers/Registration: All attendees must be registered individually and have approved the online waiver through this Eventbrite page. Youth under 18 must have their legal guardian approve the waiver on their behalf.
Transportation for Stulsaft Park: The lower entrance to Stulsaft Park is mainly accessible via car and bike, but the 278 samTrans bus goes to the Farm Hill entrance of Stulsaft Park. If taking the bus, get off at Farm Hill & Glennan Dr. stop and then walk through the park to get to the lower entrance meeting space. There is street parking for cars near the intersection of Goodwin Ave. and Mitchell Way.
Meeting Space: Meet by the native plant and animal mural/storage unit at the lower entrance to Stulsaft Park. There are multiple drinking fountains available and there is a restroom that is a five-minute walk from the meeting spot. The work area is less than a ten-minute walk from the meeting spot.
There is cell service within some areas of the park.

Reusable water bottle
Snacks, if desired
Long pants, long sleeves recommended
Sturdy closed-toed shoes
Rain gear/boots
Face mask for COVID-19 safety (optional)
Epi-Pen or allergy medicine, if applicable
Plan for potential exposure to sun, poison oak, ticks
We will provide snacks.
Event Cancellations:
We are committed to the safety of our staff and attendees. In the event that we must cancel an event due to extreme weather conditions or poor air quality, a Grassroots Ecology staff person will reach out via email no later than 5:00 PM the day prior to this event.
