Volunteer Outdoors in Redwood City: Steward and Sketch at Bair Island

  • Bair Island National Wildlife Refuge 680 Bair Island Road Redwood City, CA, 94063 United States (map)

Join Grassroots Ecology, Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST), and the San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory (SFBBO) at Bair Island in the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge to help remove invasive plants and support Bay Area biodiversity! Participants will walk up to 0.8 miles along an exposed and often foggy Bayland levee to remove invasive Maltese thistle and crown daisy. Weather can be variable, so we highly recommend bringing layers and a refillable water bottle. Along the way, volunteers will have the chance to spot unique birds and native plants, all set against a stunning ocean backdrop — perfect inspiration for our closing nature journaling activity!

Visit SFBBO's website to learn more about tidal marsh habitat restoration and our impact. https://www.sfbbo.org/tidalmarsh.html

POST works with private landowners and public agencies to connect people and nature. Visit openspacetrust.org for more information.
