Our 10th anniversary series continues with a look back at one of the places that started it all: Pearson-Arastradero Preserve in Palo Alto, Grassroots Ecology's very first stewardship site. In this Q&A, Ecologist Serena Myjer and Project Manager Hannah Cunningham share the exciting changes they've been part of over the years, along with the challenges and rewards of restoring and caring for this special place.

In this Q&A style blog post, Project Lead Brian Tatsuta reflects on the transformation of Redwood Grove Nature Preserve in Los Altos, one of our longest-standing stewardship sites. Like so many staff, volunteers, and partners who have taken part in caring for Redwood Grove over the years, Brian has developed a deep connection to this special place.

Each June, some serious number crunching happens at Grassroots Ecology. It’s the end of our fiscal year, which means that it’s time for our staff to look over all our records from the past 12 months, to see the extent of our collective impact.

Earlier this month, we announced that the Acterra Stewardship program is now an independent, fiscally sponsored project of Acterra: Action for a Healthy Planet. As part of this transition, we want to start broadening our connection to the local community through social media (Instagram and Facebook), as well as this blog. The Eco Roots blog will give a behind-the-scenes look at our work and what inspires us to improve the habitat of California’s native ecosystems.
